Recently, the BIE Intern interviews have really increased in volume. We have just completed a relatively typical VO process for students here. The overall rhythm is still the familiar "two rounds of 1 hour each", but the details are getting more and more in-depth. This interview is in progress. Amazon The Alumni Association of BIE Intern VO is of great reference value.

Amazon BIE Intern VO Timeline
Let’s talk about timeline first, to give you a reference:
9/29 delivery → 2/6 OA → 2/26 two consecutive rounds of VO → 3/6 offer received
The cycle is not short, but the progress is fairly stable.
Round 1: BQ + SQL
This round is actually the round that many people are most likely to fall into, because it is a combination of “behavioral aspects + technical verification.
BQ part
The questions asked by the interviewer are all standard, but the focus is on "probing for depth":
- Describe a time when you had to dive deep to solve a problem
- Share a time when you restructured your process (ownership) to re-establish trust.
This is not about telling a story, but about: How did you solve the problem → What data were used → How to verify → The final impact
Many people will get stuck in "talking about the process, but not reflecting the decision-making logic."
SQL part
The topic is:
Write a query that returns the total number of orders and total sales by country for December 2017
Core test points:
- Time filter (date filter)
- Group by country
- Count + sum
- Multi-table join (orders + customers / region)
Follow-up:
- Why do you use JOIN?
- Do you think this JOIN can ensure data integrity?
This section is actually a test: do you understand the data source (data lineage), do you know the difference between inner join / left join, and have you considered missing or duplicated data.
Many people write the SQL correctly, but cannot explain the join logic clearly, which directly reduces their points.
Round 2: Pure BQ
The second round is completely behavioral, but it is more difficult because you will keep asking questions.
FAQ:
- Why choose Amazon? Why BIE?
- How do you “earn trust” when your project does well?
- Describe a complex project
- How do you use data to influence business decisions?
Typical extension:
- Tell me something not on your resume
- Most proud project
The core of this round is not “whether you have experience”, but whether your expression reflects Amazon LP (especially Ownership/Earn Trust/Dive Deep)
Face-to-face supplement
There is also another structure in the same batch of VO:
Round 1: case + 2 LP (Dive Deep/Ownership)
Round 2: SQL coding + BQ hybrid
It shows that BIE interviews are becoming more and more "flexible combinations", but the essence has not changed: SQL + data understanding + LP expression ability, a three-piece set.
